The road
Follow Millennium Highway to where the pavement ends and take the immediate left. From there it’s about three miles of unsigned dirt road, worst on the descent from the ridge with the cell tower, and changeable after rain. Avoid the old bulldozed side tracks.
The beach
About 1.3 miles of coarse sand and limestone ironshore, with the Amanyara resort at its far south end.
In the water
Usable reef begins some 500 to 700 feet offshore, and the wall beyond drops from about 50 feet to thousands. It’s excellent snorkelling for strong swimmers on calm days, but not for beginners: for a first snorkel, Bight Reef is the better choice. Stay out of the water when there’s a swell, and don’t stand on the concrete reef balls offshore.
Staying safe
It’s a long way from help, and Visit TCI reports cases of armed robbery against visitors here. Go in daylight and with company, keep valuables out of sight, and watch for sea urchins and coral sumac along the shore.
The park rules
Northwest Point Marine National Park covers the water out to the reef. No fishing, no taking conch, lobster, shells, coral or sand, no touching marine life, and dogs on a leash.
